Image a larger drive to a smaler one

Postby Miko5881 » Sun Apr 04, 2004 11:10 pm

I have imaged a 20gb NTFS partion with Partimage and am trying to restore it to a lab of computer with 8gb drives (there is only 3 gigs or so of data so it will fit). I would like to know if there is a way I can modify the image or force partimage to restore it to a smaller disk. I would prefer to just modify the Image insted of using ntfsresize and adjusting the partiton size and reimaging. Thanks.

IFAIK: The only way to do this is to restore the partition to a 20 GiB HDD, then resize the partition (ntfsresize, partition magic, etc) to >= 8GiB. Then use partimage to re-save this newly resized partition.
This new image file can be restored to any partition that is => the original partition size.
